Audience: Anybody needing to maintain or program an RSLogix 5 project

Prerequisites: Basic computer skills

Course Outline

Module 1

This module provides an overview of PLC-5 systems.  It begins with an overview of the hardware, and then RSLogix5 software.  Students will receive a basic understanding of a PLC-5 project, including an introductory look at memory layout and structure.  Followed with ladder logic fundamentals, editing ladder logic and downloading programs.  At the end of this module students will be comfortable identifying PLC-5 components and will be able to reload a program into the system.

Module 2

This module introduces students to the core instruction set for the PLC-5 family processors.  Students will cover ladder logic rules and review the scan sequence for ladder logic.  The module will teach students the techniques involved in documenting a ladder logic program; as well as how to expand and organize a project through the use of subroutines.

Module 3

This module has been designed to teach students the tools that they will be able to use in maintenance and breakdown situations.  The module begins with a review of diagnostic indicators. The fault information within the Status File – S2 is also covered.  A logical approach to troubleshooting I/O faults will be presented.  Students will learn techniques of searching ladder logic to correct / maintain a program.

Module 4

This module exposes students to additional instructions with in the PLC-5 family.  Data manipulation instructions such as the Move, Copy File Fill and FAL.  Students will also use the message instruction to communicate to another processor over a Data Highway + network.
